Building a successful career is no walk in the park. Competition is fierce. Pressure and stress are always lurking around, ready to make things more difficult. Tempers get frayed.

Good manners are often overlooked in this environment. It doesn’t take a career coach to know that rude people foul the nest for everyone. By the same token those who are civil and considerate in the work place have a leg up on the competition.

Here are some examples of rudeness one often encounters on the job.

Bad Telephone Manners

One of my clients for career advice declared: “One of the rudest, most irritating case of bad manners is when a co-worker stands in the doorway of my office, while I’m on the telephone, and expects me to read his lips or decipher his hand signals. Then when he walks away, I have no idea what he was trying to communicate; and I have lost the train of thought I had with the client on the line.

“For all I know, the client on the phone could have threatened to fire us or my co-worker might have been telling me the building is being evacuated.”

Another example: You are a guest in another person’s office when your host constantly interrupts your discussion to take telephone calls.

The lack of consideration is compounded when your host assures, “This will only take a minute,” and then chatters on for ten times that long, including an update on his golf score. You are left sitting, pretending you are not listening to what is being said.

What about the times you answer the telephone and your caller’s secretary says, “Please hold for Mr. Jones. He will be with you in a moment.” Five minutes later, you are still holding the line. This can be particularly annoying when the caller wants to sell you something.

No less irritating is the secretary who demands to know who you are and what you want before she will put you through to her boss

Bad manners on cell-phones are too numerous to even begin to list.

Bad-mannered Bosses

Bosses can be among the rudest and most inconsiderate people in the workplace.

For example, your boss asks you to come to his office at 9 o’clock. He wants a status report on your top-priority project. You arrive at 8:57 sharp because you don’t want to keep him waiting. His secretary informs you he is running a few minutes behind schedule.

“Just have a seat,” she days. “He will be with you shortly.”

At 9:45, she reassures you that Mr. Big is about ready. At 10:15, you are ushered in to see him.

“I only have about 15 minutes until my next meeting,” he says. “Just give me an abbreviated version of your report?”

More Rudeness

Another chronic breach of etiquette has to do with late arrivals at meetings. How often do you drop everything else to get to the session on time, only to have to wait for two or three of the other participants to show up? Sometimes they have to be called and reminded that the group is waiting. When they do come in, it is with little more than a flip, “Sorry, guys, I got tied up on the ‘phone. You know Pete, you can’t get him off the line.”

Common courtesy is ignored at meetings when there are several side conversations going on at the same time someone is making a presentation.

What about the boss who takes the occasion of a staff meeting to chew out to a subordinate? Bad manners plus.

And, by the way, whatever happened the common courtesies of “Please” and Thank you”

3 Steps To Minimize Damage

Here are three steps you can to minimize the negative impact of rudeness and help build a successful career.

1. Practice good manners. Set an example.

2. Accept the fact that there will always be rude people who would disrupt your career if you let them. Consider the source and then ignore these people.

3. If the rudeness is more than you can tolerate, speak up. Go into your more diplomatic mode and tell the person involved that you find their rude practices to be disruptive to your best effort to do your job.

I can’t promises you this career advice will put a stop to rudeness, but you will feel better in made a common sense effort to deal with it.

What is a ‘Lifestyle Entrepreneur?

All work and no play are making too many entrepreneurs a rather dull bunch in this day and age. With their careers taking up a major part of their time, they have very little time and energy left for their friends and family, and even their personal well being.

The term “lifestyle entrepreneur” is given to anyone who starts a business not for financial gains, but for lifestyle rewards. The biggest motivation for all lifestyle entrepreneurs is an overwhelming desire for independence. They dream of working for themselves, and running a business that is in tune with their lifestyle. Therefore, practically anyone with an independent bent of mind can take up lifestyle entrepreneurship.

Running Your Business

Most lifestyle entrepreneurs start businesses that they are passionate about. Any business, even if it is in pursuit of a passion or interest, still requires all the essential elements of a successful set-up, like a plan, a service or product, funding, and a market to sell the service or product. To start a successful business, lifestyle entrepreneurs have to pay attention to four main factors:

•	Choosing suitable people to work with

•	Selecting and managing technology to keep up with competition

•	Attaining the perfect blend of control and growth

•	Gaining profits

Whether it is closed, passed on to a family member or sold, every business has an end. Lifestyle entrepreneurs need to make sure their business is profitable. By maintaining good financial records, and using good business tactics, the business can generate a good income and profits.

Ways To Create Success As A Lifestyle Entrepreneur

The success of a rewarding lifestyle is by far one of the greatest achievements you can attain. Lifestyle entrepreneurs strive to achieve such a success. Here are some ways to become a successful entrepreneur:

•	Define Your Values – To become a successful lifestyle entrepreneur, you must define certain values and principles and honor them in both your personal as well as business life. Successful lifestyle entrepreneurs are required to know exactly what is important for their business.

•	Create A Vision – Visualize what you will be doing three years down the line. Realistic conceptualization is one of the key factors of becoming a successful lifestyle entrepreneur. Not only will this provide a goal, but can also be useful in formulating methods of achieving it.

•	Make A Plan Of Action – Knowledge is not enough, application is more important. Top performers will tell you that lasting success can only come through hard work. The more you work, the better results you reap. Create a plan of action that is result oriented. Your plan must work within a specific period of time.

•	Hire Support – It is advisable to hire support in areas that do not fall under your expertise. Hiring people to do your work will provide you with more freedom and time to focus on gaining profits for your business. This way, your business will be your main concern, and not other lesser tasks that form an intrinsic part of any business.

•	Generate Passive Income – Generating a stream of passive income will build your brand name. Passive income involves referral programs, affiliate programs, and pay-for-inclusion committees.

Whether you are a lifestyle entrepreneur, or dream of becoming one, following these guidelines will prove useful. Lifestyle entrepreneurship eliminates the usual drawbacks that apply to traditional entrepreneurship, which will provide the motivation and scope for growth, to achieve success. Therefore, if you are ready to live a more meaningful and interesting life, becoming a lifestyle entrepreneur could be the right choice for you.

The Army operates the largest number of helicopters of any US military service. If you choose to fly helicopters in the Army you will start at Ft. Rucker, Alabama, which is the home of Army Aviation. Once you’ve completed your training the real fun begins. Army aviators fly some of the most advanced helicopters in the world.

The AH-64 Apache attack helicopter is the most advanced attack helicopter in the U.S. inventory. It’s able to operate day or night in good or adverse weather. The Apache is armored and can withstand hits from shells as large as 23mm. The pilot’s sit in a titanium tub offering them protection not seen in any other helicopter. The Apache is able to carry an assortment of rockets and missiles in addition to its 30 mm chain gun. The Apache has a crew of two pilots. It has a maximum speed of 180 mph and a combat radius of 270 n.m.

The OH-58 Kiowa Warrior is a scout, observation, and light attack helicopter. The job of the OH-58 Kiowa is to locate the enemy and call in fire from other units such as artillery, naval gunfire, tactical aircraft or AH-64 gunships. The Kiowa also has the ability to engage targets. It can carry rockets, missiles, and gun pods. The Kiowa has a crew of two pilots and can carry two additional people in the rear seats. It has a maximum speed of 140 mph and a combat range of 170 miles.

The AH-1F Cobra is a generation older than the Ah-64. The Ah-1F is a tandem seat attack helicopter. It’s used in much the same way as the AH-64 Apache. It can carry rockets and missiles in addition to its 3-barreled 20mm gatling gun. It has a crew of two pilots and a combat radius of 150 mi.

The UH-60 Black Hawk is a medium lift assault/utility helicopter. The black hawk is able to carry 11 fully armed combat troops. It also has the ability to lift the 105mm M102 Howitzer along with its 4-person crew and reposition it. The crew consists of two pilots, a crew chief, and a gunner. The Blackhawk has a maximum speed of 200 mph and a combat radius of 370 mi.

The CH-47 Chinook is the Army’s heavy lift helicopter. It has two engines and is a tandem rotor design (one rotor behind the other). The Ch-47 roles are troop movement, re-supply, and artillery placement. To help in loading and unloading supplies the Chinook has a large loading ramp in the rear of the fuselage. It also has three external hooks from which it can sling loads. The CH-47 has a crew of three, two pilot and a crew chief. It can carry 33 troops or 24 litters and three medical personnel or 28000 pounds of cargo. The Chinook has a maximum speed of almost 200 mph and a combat radius of 650 miles.

The OH-6 Cayuse is a small helicopter that is used for personnel transport, escort, and light attack missions. The OH-6 has a crew of two. Its max speed is 175 mph and its combat radius is 115 nm.

The MH-6 and AH-6 LOACH were originally variants of the OH-6 but know they are a separate platform based on the McDonnell Douglas model 530. The MH-6 and AH-6 are special operation helicopters. They’re used to insert and extract special operations troops, to support special operation troops and other missions relating to the conduct of special operations warfare.

Army aviators have a long and proud tradition of flying helicopters. They are very skilled and serve the nation with honor and distinction.

Here’s a guide for you to use when deciding on the services of Career Counseling, Coaching. St. Louis is not unlike other cities. Many potential clients are being bombarded with noise about choosing a professional in career counseling, coaching.

St. Louis Career Counseling, coaching often help answer the tough questions that focus on “how to” develop next steps toward your career dreams. They also help individuals without direction or focus and take them through a process of discovery. They are experts at how to uncover the hidden job markets so that you can explore, validate and position yourself as a valuable contributor not a beggar! Connecting with a career counselor, coach in a personal way is just as important as making sure that they are experienced and highly recommended by others who have used them. Establishing a trusting relationship with your career counselor, coach is a must! Have a session or two where you can experience “real coaching value” before continuing with their service. Selecting a career counselor, coach can make the career process enjoyable, exciting and can even produce faster results.

How do you evaluate the right professionals that work in Career counseling, coaching? Before you begin your search for the right career counselor, there are 5 keys strengths you should look for in choosing a career expert that will pay dividends in the end.

Career counseling, coaching professionals should have a niche expertise. Are they and expert in working with executives? Maybe they are known for working with individuals in the Heath Care arena or within manufacturing. The key is to make sure you are comfortable with their level of expertise.

Career counseling, coaching professionals should provide real action steps. You want to know after a short time if they have an action plan for you to follow. If you want to get somewhere fast “Measure it.”

Career counseling, coaching professionals should have a success record. Are they known in the community and have they been in business for awhile? Read testimonials and see if you can find press releases, articles or books that have been published.

Career counseling, coaching professionals should have specific education or training. What’s their background before they became a career counselor, coach? Do they have a support group or on going mentor? Are they involved in organizations that keep them on the cutting edge? Do they have a degree in a related field? Having a focused certification/education coupled with real life experiences can make a huge difference which is my next point.

Career counseling, coaching professionals should have worked in a related field before starting their own practice. (Example: real HR experience) So many graduates have worked hard in understanding the core of their major but as you know putting it to practice in the real world can be quite different than studied concepts and methods.

Through career counseling, coaching you can uncover more — and perhaps better — options, and have more choice about your next position. Visit http://www.activ8careers.com or read additional free career articles.

In your quest for career change answers, a good decision making technique can help you to make smart choices, and a decisional balance is a simple, effective and free decision making tool. To use a decisional balance, you need nothing more than a pen, a piece of paper, and a little bit of time to think through your career options.

For those who like to make decisions analytically and systematically, and for intuitive types who want to try out a different way of thinking, a decisional balance, originally conceptualized by Janis and Mann, is a great tool that can be quite helpful in providing career decision guidance.

A decisional balance is like a super-charged pro and con list. It can help you to see all sides of a situation and make great career choices. When you work through a decisional balance, you think through the benefits and costs of making a specific choice, and then you think through the benefits and costs of not making a specific choice.

To create your own decisional balance, follow these simple steps:

Take out a blank sheet of paper and divide the page into four sections (you should have two rows and two columns). Label the top left section Benefits (pros) of Pursuing the Opportunity – This is where you will list all of the positive reasons for pursuing a particular opportunity or making a specific choice. Label the top right section Costs (cons) of Pursuing the Opportunity – This is where you will list all of the negative aspects on pursuing a particular opportunity. Label the bottom left section Benefits (pros) of Not Pursuing the Opportunity – This is where you will list all of the positive outcomes of not choosing a particular path or career choice. Label the bottom right section Costs (cons) on Not Pursuing the Opportunity – This is where you will list all of the positive things you could miss out on if you choose not to pursue that particular opportunity.

The decisional balance is very effective, not only in helping you to assess the consequences of choosing an option, but also in allowing you to assess the consequences of not choosing that option. That is what makes it a more thorough and better decision making technique than a simple pro and con list.

Some people are very intuitive about decision making. That is, once they have the information they need, they just feel, on a gut level, which choice is best. Others are more analytical and like to make lists and methodically weigh the pros and cons of each option before coming to a decision. There is no right or wrong way to make this kind of choice, there are just different ways of making decisions. The more effective decision making techniques and strategies you have at your disposal, the more prepared you will be to make smart career choices.

Whether you are deciding whether to accept a new job, assessing the next step in your current job, making a complete career change or planning your retirement options a decisional balance can help you to see all sides of an issue and make well reasoned career choices.

Our world is constantly changing. What may be the usual or routine behavior one year may change the next. Knowing this, counselors and teachers often reexamine the need to of applying career development theory to counseling and fit it into modern times.

Individuals go through the process of career development to learn more about themselves and their career paths knowing a combination of the two leads them to know more about their identity in the cosmopolitan world.

Those who take continual education, join internships and apprenticeships, attend seminars and courses and continue research tend to succeed in their careers better than those who stop, or slow down the learning process after they begin a career. Businesses know and rely on this to stay ahead of other companies.

One early career development theory focused on stages concerning the adolescent phase, the preteen through teen phase, and young adulthood.

The adolescent phase is the phase where the world is opening up to the child. “What do I want to be when I grow up” is thought of, but isn’t important. For instance, one adolescent may pretend to be a dancer, while at the same time she wants to be a doctor, a scientist, a veterinarian, and an artist. She is too young yet to know if she will want to follow these career choices later in life.

In the preteen to teen phase of this career development theory, the individual starts to be inclined towards what she likes to do. What areas she excels at and finds useful. The female child in the earlier example has only a passing interest in dancing and art. Her activities and knowledge begins to lean towards science and health while preferring to study the ins and outs of domestic animals.

This is when she considers research and classes she will need to continue in these fields. Through the career development theory we see she is starting to think more about what she wants to be when she grows up.

The final step in this career development theory is the individual’s preferences, likes and dislikes that lead her to the career she eventually chooses. In this example, the female decides she would rather work more with animals than people and chooses to become a veterinarian. She now needs to go beyond high school, take required courses, and train with professionals in order to take on her career goal.

Teachers and experts can apply the career development theory to counseling when dealing with the growth and development of a child. They can advise and monitor how a child behaves and the potential of what they were to become when they get older.

Here are some reasons you may have for wanting to change your career. If one or more of these apply to you, then you may be ready to make the decision to change career. If your reason for considering a new career is not on this list of the six most common and best reasons for changing career, think carefully. You may need a holiday, sabbatical, a change of job, or to move to a different location. A career change requires a lot of thought, work and time, so do it for the right reasons.

1. Your life circumstances have changed so it’s time for a career change:

a) You have children who need more or less of your time than before:

You now have children and want to share more time with them and your spouse than your current career allows.

You have children and you are the primary carer so you need to be at home and want a career that allows you to work from home with the flexibility to work around the hours your children need you.

Your children have started school and you have more time available, so you want to start a new career.

Your children have grown up and left home, and now you no longer have to support them, you want to pursue your life long dream of being a scuba instructor in Hawaii (for example).

b) You have gone through a divorce or break up:

Now that you are single again, you want to move back to your home town/ state/country which you left to satisfy your ex-spouses needs when your relationship was flourishing. Now you can get back to your own family and friends, and find the career that you were meant to do. Your current career was a compromise that you accepted whilst you were married/in the relationship, but now you want to pursue your own dreams.

c) You have recently been bereaved:

Your spouse has passed away. You may have cared for them through a serious and ultimately terminal illness, giving up your career to be at home. Perhaps your experiences leading up to your tragic loss have taught you important lessons about yourself and your own life calling. Now it is time to rebuild your life, and a new career is in order.

d) You have been, or are likely to be made redundant:

Your career is no longer in demand. You have lost your job, and the prospects of finding work again in the same field are slim. You need to find a different career that will provide you with enjoyment, satisfaction and a stable and reliable income for as long as is possible to forsee. Perhaps you have a redundancy package that will help to see you through the transition. Perhaps you are less fortunate, and need to earn money immediately, whilst you investigate potential alternative career options.

Your current career is in less demand and likely to continue declining. You are working in a career that is being subsumed by changes in technology or society. It is only a matter of time before you are made redundant, and you do not want to wait for that to happen. You have to change career. You have some time to do the research, or you have an idea of what you want to do in your next career.

2. You want more personal growth in your new career.

Your current career does not offer you the fulfillment you need, and you want to have a career that allows you to learn and grow as a human being. You want to have passion for your work so that you will be imaginative and creative in your career. You want to fully utilize your talents, education, experience and skills to create something meaningful in your new career.

3. Your want less stress in your next career.

You are experiencing high stress in your current career. You are not as young as you once were (who is?!) and you want more calm in your career. Tight artificial deadlines, reactive “fire-fighting” work and a pressure cooker work environment are no longer for you – you are happy to leave that to a younger person. Now it is time to pursue a proactive, planned, steady new career. A career choice that gives you the work-life balance you desire and deserve.

4. You want more excitement and challenge from your second career:

Your career is boring and no longer challenging. It just does not excite you any more, if it ever really did. You have mastered all the skills you need, your experience makes your job easy, and you have no interest in trying to progress further up the career ladder in this particular sector. You are just not interested in further training in this career – you feel it’s not worth the effort. You are looking for an exciting challenging career that will get your adrenalin flowing and your heart pounding again. Something to make you feel young and alive.

5. Your earning power is limited by your current career.

Your current career, interesting and fun though it may be, just does not pay the bills. You need to find something that you can love doing that will provide you with financial security as well as job satisfaction.

6. You see a new career you want to try because you think it will offer you all the above.

Your eyes have been opened to the opportunity of a new career in a field that you had not considered before, or that did not exist before. Perhaps technology, political or social changes, or a move to a different city, state or country has revealed a career choice that you are sure is a better fit for you. If it fits with one or more of the reasons above, then you should consider it.

Consider all the options, but be prepared to take some risk

Nothing is definite in life, except that one day it will end. When that end is near, will you forgive yourself for not taking the risk that might have made you complete? Look into your own heart, make the decision, and then let your head work out the details of how to get there.

Career tests for kids are important for a variety of reasons. Many children think about their futures and are curious as to what possible careers are available to them. In fact, children are naturally curious about many of the following areas as they relate to careers.

1. Kids often want to know what education is required for specific careers.
2. Kids want to know salary specifications for various jobs.
3. Kids want to know what tasks specific careers will require them to perform.
4. Kids want to know how their particular interests can lead to possible career choices.
5. Kids want to know about the growth of their chosen career fields in future years.
6. Kids want to know if they have the ability levels to perform in certain career fields.

Taking the Test

While taking these career tests for kids, children answer many different types of questions about their likes, dislikes, preferences, aptitudes, skill sets, goals, and future aspirations. Based on the children’s unique answers to these questions, the career tests can give kids various types of information.

Results of the Test

The test usually provides students with career information suitable to them based on their specific answers to the questions. For example, the test will tell kids what jobs are most suitable for them. Usually, there is a minimum of three different types of careers in assorted career fields. The results of the test also give specific information about each of the careers listed. This information might include the following for each career listed: education required, salary specifications, job requirements, potential for job growth in future years, and any other special requirements a specific career might require such as a security clearance.

Children Can Use the Results

Children can use the results for different purposes. The career tests for kids allow students to see real possibilities for their futures, and they can plan for these futures. Children can choose classes to take in school that relate to these career paths. They can research the careers further on the Internet or by reading books related to their chosen fields. Kids can join extracurricular activities related to the careers so they can explore them further. Children can also perform volunteer services to learn about possible careers. For example, children can volunteer reading to younger children if they want to explore the field of education.

Career Tests Provide Useful Information for Kids

Career tests provide useful information for kids because they provide a foundation for kids to use as a starting off point to explore possible career choices. Children can see exactly what education they need now for the future. They can realistically see the requirements for specific jobs to see if they even want to pursue careers in certain fields. Having access to this type of information often helps kids make decisions about their current educations.

Kids need to think about their futures and learn to plan early. These career tests help children make decisions that will affect the rest of their lives. All children should have the opportunity to take these tests.

Midpros or Mid Career professionals are a distinctive segment of employees, constituting an important section of management, with over 8 years of work experience, in the middle of their working lives, the prime period.

Need For Analysis

A midpro needs to examine the level he/ she has reached, in his/ her function as well as organization. This could often fall short of what a rising star performer would have achieved in the same time span, in any prominent company, similar to the one the midpro is in.

Compare Initial Promise And Final Achievement

To assess a midpro’s level of achievement objectively, one has to take into account the promise the midpro displayed when he/ she began working. Also, you need to ask what promise the midpro affords now, if given the right working atmosphere, moral support, and organizational assistance.

Stagnation

This article concerns midpros who are stuck in dead end jobs, and stagnating for a period of time, without any scope for lateral or vertical progress within their company. Also, these midpros are typically reluctant to admit to themselves that their desires are not being met in their present position. Their job development has reached a plateau, and they are stuck at a lower salary scale than they merit.

Employer Dissatisfaction

The company that employs midpros could be stuck in its own way. It probably has to bear with a demoralized person it has invested in. The midpro is no longer performing to potential; yet, the employer cannot get rid of him/ her. Thus, both the employer and the employee are at sea, and need someone to rescue them from the situation.

Need To Measure Skills And Job Satisfaction

First of all, midpros need to learn, either by themselves or by taking help from others, to list their capabilities and functional expertise, and use the list to define their skill sets. This will in turn help midpros to decide how they view their career path so far. They also need to measure how much job satisfaction they have currently, and how much they want to have from a job they consider as ideal for them.

Need To Get Ready For Job Change

To help them achieve this, midpros need to be counselled and/or guided, to upgrade/ expand their skill set, so that they areable to aim for a change of job, or a shift in career. Such a move would give new lease of life to their currently stagnating career.

Interacting With Peers

Also, midpros need to interact with peers – that would make them aware that some of their fellow professionals are also in similar situations as theirs. Also, they may learn more about how others in a similar situation handle their problems.

Seeking Career Consultation

Midpros need to use the services of a career consultant. The consultant must go beyond just finding a match between the midpros’ skill sets and job specifications of companies. Apart from finding a perfect professional and personal match in the company that employs him or her, the midpro must be able to clearly see a desired career path in that company.

Need For Balance Between Career And Home

You can dream of being a Vice President, but you may not know how to reach that position. If you don’t have a career map, then eventually you may end up being in the same position as before.

Career mapping can be highly beneficial at any stage of your career. Whether you are entering the workplace for the first time or you are a veteran of the rat race, career mapping can prove to be one an invaluable tool – particularly if you are thinking of switching careers.

A career map is a two-piece document that actually summarizes a person’s career strategy. In short, it is like a road map that will guide you throughout your work life. You should refer to your road map when you want to reach a destination; similarly, you should use your career map when you want to go ahead in your career. A career map is particularly handy when you experience job loss through downsizing or layoffs – when you have a career map, you won’t have to panic, because your strategy will already be in place.

Career mapping can help you go about achieving your goals with purpose and clarity, whether that is advancing in your current career or searching for a new one.

Overview

This point clarifies what it is that you would like to accomplish in the future – in as short as one year or as long as five – and gives you the route that you need to take to get there. There are times when you may have to change the map suddenly when you find a lucrative job opening or when you realize that you have taken a wrong turn in your career – so it pays to be flexible.

Marketing Plan

If you are presently working long hours and not making the kind of money that you want, it could be a matter of insufficient focus. Decide which aspect of your profession is the most valuable, and develop a plan to market your knowledge, skills and experience to get a position that’s right for you.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Maximize your strengths through experience and reduce your weakness through education. If you are stuck, then you can consult a career coach or counselor.

Plan of Action

Once you know your goals, then you need to identify how you will get there. You can do this by talking to experts or getting help from a mentor. Similarly, you should seek advice from people in similar positions that are already successful.

Financial Plan

Analyze why you want to change your career and direct your strengths to influence your finances. Look at your present position and then set a pattern to monitor your progress.

If you want to change your career for the better, then it pays to have a plan. Having a career map is one of the best tools for getting you where you need to go.
