I first surveyed the area, produced a traffic analysis and survey, researched city rules and regulations for compliance, and wrote a twenty-five page report depicting the feasibility of building a new freeway off-ramp. My mathematical skills are excellent and I am very conscientious about meeting deadlines and completing tasks unsupervised. You might think with all the economic uncertainty and problems in the financial markets that now is not a great time to be searching for job vacancies on cruise ships.   However almost alone amongst the foreign travel industry – cruises are defying the market and are more popular now than ever.   There are more cruise liners operating all over the world than ever before and  the demand for reliable skilled employees is rising all the time.

Most cruise liners now are pretty much comparable to floating five star hotels and offer a huge variety of facilities and entertainment to their passengers.  This of course means that the variety of skills needed to look after thousands of guests is also greatly increased from just about every conceivable hospitality job through to IT support, nurses and admin roles most people can find an appropriate job vacancy on a cruise liner.

Working on a cruise liner has lots of benefits – you get  to travel all over the world, all your bills and board are free, meet people from all over  the world and generally makes your job into an adventure.  However it is important to remember that these jobs are all hard work – cruise passengers can be extremely demanding and you have to be professional and courteous at all times.   The discipline involved is much more than a normal job simply because when that ship sets sail everyone has to be relied on to do their job and keep the passengers happy.

Obviously you should be comfortable working at sea and unless you are very senior or an officer you will generally be required to share a cabin. The crews quarters are often quite small  - so again if you’re somebody who needs lots of their own space you might not enjoy this.  Having said that you are usually able to use all the ships facilities when off duty so there is plenty of space for relaxing away from sleeping quarters.

Working on a cruise liner is certainly a fantastic experience but it’s not for everyone – if you want to do 9-5 hours you’ll be disappointed as everyone is expected to pitch in and do whatever is required.   There is a great camaraderie though amongst most crews – with friendships made that often last a lifetime.   You work hard but when you finish your contract you’ll come back having met lots of new people, seen loads of new places and best of all an almost untouched salary sitting in your bank account!

There is no doubt that teaching jobs are more difficult to secure than ever before. States around the country are drastically cutting their budgets in an attempt to battle rising fuel costs and a tough economy. In fact, many school districts are being forced to cut more than 20 million dollars from their budget. Unfortunately, this is leading to many people actually losing their teaching job.

So how are teachers supposed to get a teaching job in this situation? Is it even possible?

The answer is yes, but it’s not going to be easy. To land a teaching job candidates are going to have to pull out all the stops…they are going to have use every trick in the book.

One problem many teachers have is getting their resume noticed. How does one make their teacher resume stand out when a school district may get thousands of resumes?

Here’s how…

First, let me preface this by stating that the resume tip you are about to read will always be powerful, but as of the writing of this article it is currently EXTREMELY powerful as hardly anyone is using it.

Also, let me state that I did not come up with this resume tip on my own. It was actually brought to my attention from someone who works in the human resource department at the Sarasota School District in Florida. The Sarasota School District is a very popular Florida school district that gets thousands upon thousands of resumes every year.

In a recent conversation it was brought to my attention that a strategy is starting to be used (by very few candidates – roughly 1 out of a 1000) that is not only making the candidate look good, but also making the candidate’s resume STAND OUT. It is something that will immediately get the readers attention…something that will literally force the reader to take a closer look at your resume…something that simply cannot be overlooked.

What is so fascinating about this strategy is that it is taken right out of marketing 101. It is the same strategy that has worked for sales letters and websites for years…it is so simple I can’t believe I didn’t think of it myself!

What is this amazing resume tip?

Simply add testimonials to your resume. That’s right…testimonials!

**Important Note: This is not meant to replace the reference section of your resume. You will still have a section at the end of your resume where you write your references (including name, title, and phone number).

However, in addition to references you will now include testimonials on each page of your resume. Just like you would see on a website. Simply use the left margin of your resume to write testimonials from other people about you. Remember, when it comes to getting a job, you are “selling” yourself, and ask any marketer and they will all tell you the same thing…testimonials increase sales. So use the left margin to write short 1-sentence testimonials. Use small font, and italics with the person’s name and title included.

For example:

______ has an outstanding

work ethic.

–Jim Ross, Principal

Mr.______ has been

a real team player.

–Harriet Cohen, Principal

______’s positive attitude has

helped inspire students to learn.

You get the idea. Simply place several testimonials on each page and watch how much more your resume stands out from all the others.

Again, this strategy is currently being used by very few people so now is the time to take advantage of that. I guarantee there will be a time soon when this strategy becomes routine and every resume will include testimonials. Until then you have a golden opportunity to make your teacher resume grab the readers attention and get you the teaching job of your dreams.

The need for skilled healthcare workers is increasing in proportion to the needs of our rapidly aging population. The field of diagnostic medical imaging is one area in which the demand currently is high and is expected to remain so for quite some time. It could be quite worthwhile for those thinking of entering the field of allied healthcare to consider a career in medical diagnostic imaging.

Diagnostic imaging is a catch all description that encompasses a number of allied healthcare specialties related to the imaging sciences. The three primary fields we will discuss are radiologic technology, ultrasound technology, and nuclear medicine technology.

Radiologic technology, more commonly known as x-ray technology, is perhaps the largest of diagnostic imaging fields. The radiologic technologist is the individual responsible for taking x-rays in hospital, office, and clinical settings. The training program for an x-ray technologist is usually 2-4 years, and will lead to either a bachelors or associates degree. Programs are offered through colleges and universites, some hospitals, and the military. Once certified, the radiologic technologist can further advance their career options through advanced training in a number of specialty areas. Among them are MRI, Cat Scan, mammography, and interventional radiology.

Nuclear medicine involves the use of radioactive materials within the body to produce images used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Nuclear medicine technologists are responsible for preparation of radioisotopes and operation of the nuclear medicine camera. The majority of nuclear medicine technologists are employed by hospitals, with a smaller number employed by imaging centers and cardiology offices. The training period for this imaging specialty is usually 2-4 years. One year certificate programs are available for those who already possess a degree in a related imaging field.

Ultrasound is the science of producing diagnostic medical images through the use of sound waves. Diagnostic Medical Sonographers, are responsible for the operation of the the equipment to produce these images. The training period for sonographers is usually 2-4 years at colleges and universities, with one year certificate programs available for those with related healthcare training. Sonographers may find employment at hospitals, private offices, and free standing imaging centers. A number of specialty areas are available for sonographers with advanced training. Among them are ob-gyn, cardiology, breast sonography, and neurosonography.

Imaging technologists must successfully complete certification examinations in their related specialties in order to certify their competency and compete in the job market. Many states also have separate licensure requirements for radiologic technologists and nuclear medicine technologists.
